Kim was diagnosed in January 2002 and lost her battle just five months later. She had a heart of gold and always put others before herself. Kim led a courageous and exemplary battle, and left an enduring legacy. Please join us on Saturday, November 5th as we walk to commemorate her life!

Marcus was an adoring son, loving brother, proud uncle, dear nephew and devoted friend. Even when diagnosed with Lymphoma in the summer of 1996, he never lost his spirit. Tragically Marcus lost his life in 1998. His family and friends relentlessly fight for a cure and walk every year in remembrance of him.



Meet Your Honored Heroes ATL

On February 16, 2010 Mike went to the doctor to get some answers for a recent bump on his head. When the words cancer came out of the doctors mouth, Mike was shocked. He was later diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After four rounds of chemotherapy and six hospital stays totaling 53 days, Mike went into remission in August.

His love for life and positive outlook has served as an inspiration to so many and we are thrilled to announce him as our 2011 Atlanta Honored Hero!

This little cute is Samariona! She is 10 years old and is in 5th grade. Samariona was diagnosed back in 2006 and has undergone bone marrow transplants, chemo therapy, and other forms of treatments. Just the picture shows, she loves life and her smile is contagious. She loves to sing, dance and draw.

Meet Davey!!!

In September of 2002, Davey was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia at the young age of 8 and had a second run-in with cancer in 2009. Bobby does not allow his cancer to take over and still continues to enjoy the finer things in life...fishing that is!

Remembered, but never forgotten

On October 16, 2009 David was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Sadly, after a treatment of chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant, he passed away one year after his diagnosis leaving his wife and two daughters. He will be remembered always, but never forgotten. We walk for people like David and his family and honor him by naming David as the 2011 Savannah Remembered Hero.

Greyson is an 8th grade student at Pinewood Christian Academy. He was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) in November of 2010 and went through a treatment protocol of chemotherepy.

Greyson enjoys football, paintball, video games and spending time with his family. Funds raised for Light The Night benefit local patients like Greyson!

Heroes Among Us: Athens

 It all happened after a trip to the ER for some erratic heartbeats. The blood tests came back reporting some irregularly high white blood cells counts. After months of tests with his oncologist, Steve received the news, he was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), a disease that usually affects people in their 60s or 70s. He handled his diagnosis incredibly well and never felt sorry for himself; he was determined to fight!

Steve  has always been a guy who thinks the glass is half full. Being diagnosed with leukemia at the young age of 33 didn’t change that.

Steve and his wife, Karen, have been attending the Light The Night Walk since it began in Athens many years ago. He says, "So many people caring for other people and it is a lot of fun too." Steve admits that he is out there every year not for himself, but for the young kids and babies diagnosed with blood cancers. That, he says, is what it is all about. As for being the Light The Night’s Athens Honored Hero? "I think it’s pretty cool, and an honor" he says "but I don’t think I have done anything heroic, and I don’t consider myself a hero, but I do hope I can be an inspiration to others".

Baby Bobby was born in February of 2008, but only hours into his life, the doctors knew something wasn't right. He was taken to CHOA where his parents heard the terrifying diagnosis of Myelomonocytic Leukemia. At just three months old, he endured his first round of chemotherepy and at four months, he received a bone marrow transplant. Complications arose and Bobby's tiny little body just couldn't fight off everything. He passed away in his mother's arms.

The pain of losing a child has been unbearable for their family, but they have persevered in honor of Bobby. They share his story to spread awareness and to make sure baby Bobby is never forgotten. Light The Night is a night of hope for their family, where they are surrounded by people who understand their situation and unite together in hopes of finding a cure!
